Thanksgiving 2007

The seed is in the ground.
Now may we rest in hope
While darkness does its work.

Sabbath Poem V, 1991
Wendel Berry

Dear All -

This week we observe Thanksgiving. That great feast is in our consciousness. But there is another feast of note. This Sunday - November 25th - is the final one in the Three-Year Cycle. December 2nd, we turn to the first Sunday in the Year of the Gospel of Matthew and the First Path of Quadratos.

Recall that in our enlarged cycle - we now have three Church years. This coming year - and particularly this year's Advent is dedicated to asking - not just about the birth of Jesus - but a far more significant question: How does the presence of Christ invite us to face ever deeper change?

Next week, you will receive a lengthy email - outlining the Gospel passages of Advent and Christmas as they reflect question of facing change.

For this moment, give thanks and rejoice, naming the fruits that have been harvested over the past three Christian years. Soon - very soon - the seed will yet again be in the ground.

May I ask your prayer for a moment of significance. I have an important interview with a luminary in the Christian world that will take place at 3:30 New York time on December 3rd. Please place your heart on this moment and ask that the work of Quadratos increase in the manner and way that the Spirit wishes.

In the coming month, I will say more about this moment and the person with whom I will be speaking.

GREAT and Joy-Filled Thanks be Yours
