Dr. Alexander Shaia to Preach at First Christian Church of North Hollywood
- Have Jesus' orignial words been lost?
- Did Jesus marry, or even have children who carried on his bloodline?
- Did Jesus die and rise, only to die again?
Alexander Shaia, psychologist, religious educator, and now author, responds, "Interesting questions, but they aren't about faith."
On January 21, 2007, Dr. Alexander Shaia, author of Beyond The Biography of Jesus: The Journey of Quadratos, Book I, returns to preach at First Chrisitan Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH - 4350 Colfax Avenue) during the 10 am., 5:30 and 7:30 pm. services.
All are invited to attend one of the services at FCCNH on January 21st and/or the Bible Study on Monday, January 22nd - 7pm.
Dr. Shaia's groundbreaking research unearthed the sayings of the early Christian teacher Bishop Ireneaus. At the end of the second century, the Bishop watched his congregation die brutally at Roman hands. In his devastation, he was determined to preserve the true gospels. But which ones to save? The Bishop and his people were torn by the query that still rends our hearts today. "How could God let this happen?" Irenaeus knew the gospels must not simply tell the life of Jesus, but something more.
He knew Christianity must be developed on the number four -- 4 questions, 4 practices, 4 points on the cross, 4 prayers. So, the some 30 gospels written had to be narrowed to precisely 4. Each text was to hold and answer one of the 4 great questions:
- How do we face change? - The Gospel of Matthew
- How do we endure suffering? - The Gospel of Mark
- How do we receive joy? - The Gospel of John
- How do we serve? - The Gospel of Luke & Acts
Beyond the Biography of Jesus: The Journey of Quadratos, Book l answers these questions. Dr. Shaia discovered that the 4 traditional gospels, when read in a particular sequence (Matthew, Mark, John and Luke), reveal everyone's path to faith and transformation. He calls this path, "The Journey of Quadratos." Find out more at www.quadratos.com.
Dr. Shaia was born into the Maronite Christian tradition (Eastern-rite Catholic) and holds a doctorate in clinical psychology as well as degrees in cultural anthropology, counseling education, religious education, pastoral psychotherapy, and spiritual direction. Dr. Shaia speaks internationally, conducting retreats, workshops and presentations on Quadratos, Christian spirituality and rites of passage. He is adjunct faculty at numerous universities and colleges, and is the creator of the Blue Door Retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a place for contemplation and deepening in spiritual practice. Among many others, he has spoken recently at Brentwood Presbyterian Church (Los Angeles, CA), St. Andrews Episcopal Church (Seattle, WA), St. Peter & Paul Parish (Rocklin, CA), and on KPFK-FM (Los Angeles, CA). He will soon lead a retreat for the Deacons of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino, a retreat for the Benedictine monks at Valeymo, CA, address the United Methodist Conference of New Mexico (Glorietta, NM) and lead the week-long retreat, Companions on the Inner Way, sponsored by the San Francisco Theology School, at Rancho Capistrano (Orange County, CA).
