Who Holds the Truth?
THERE IS AN immense dilemma in most spiritual traditions today - Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity. Many would even use stronger vocabulary and speak of crisis. The dilemma is one of belief, and of trust. Who or what holds the truth? Of course, there are those who do not feel, or share, this predicament. Some of us are perfectly happy and fulfilled believing that the specific words in the sacred texts we read are both literal and inerrant. Others of us have simply turned off - closed our minds and hearts to any form of religion whatsoever because we have been so injured or angered by the illogical or uncharitable practices of our faith. Then there is the group in which I include myself. We cherish our traditions and yearn for them to grow beyond their illogic and lack of charity - to become more like the embodiment of the great teachings of the faiths we follow...
